Recommended Stuff by Pete Sipple
On this page is a now fairly outdated list of things that I’m happy to recommend:
Black Books |
Great Channel 4 comedy, Black Books now runs to three series, and is a true classic. Do yourself a favour, and watch this series. | Series 1 available From Amazon on DVD or VHS videoFor more on Black Books, and new series information, see the Radio and Telly Black Books page. |
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy |
If you’re a fan of the cult sci-fi comedy from the pen of the late Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – you’ll probably have a favourite format – either the books, the TV series, the 2005 film, or hopefully, the radio series.
If the original radio series is what got you hooked – check out the new series broadcast in 2004 and 2005 |
Take a look Radio and Telly’s Hitch-Hiker’s page for details of the various incarnations including the new radio series aired in 2004 and 2005, and some of the behind-the-scenes books. |
Advance Wars for GBA |
The most addictive game for the Gameboy Advance – Advance Wars. It’s a turn-based war strategy game that pits you against computer foe, or your friends with a collection of different war maps and game options. Highly recommended! | Advance Wars had me hooked for months… and as of July 03, I’ve managed to get the sequel “Advance Wars II: Black Hole Rising” before it’s UK release in Nov 2003.For details of Advance Wars 1 and 2, see the GBA page at ConsumerDeals. |
Software Project Survival Guide |
Good book for those looking to get into Software Project Management. This explains the concepts, issues and terminology | Click for info (Amazon books) |
Dark Moon: Apollo and the Whistle-Blowers |
According to this book – we didn’t go to the moon in 1969 – the Apollo missions were all faked. Skeptical? I was too, until I read this book after seeing a TV documentary on the subject. 568 pages analysing the photos and footage, this book provides conclusive proof that we didn’t go (allegedly!). Whether you believe we went or not, this book throws up some interesting discussion on the subject, and includes some (possibly doctored) photos from the lunar surface.Apollo and The Whistleblowers Review | Click for info (Amazon books) |
Coupling |
Coupling, is an excellent, and underrated, BBC 2 sitcom about six thirty-somethings and their complex love lives. Think ‘Friends’, but UK and with attitude. | See how it all started with Series One from Amazon on DVD or VHS videoFor more on Coupling and a discussion forum, see the Radio and Telly Coupling page. |
Black Box |
Scary. Transcripts of Cockpit Voice Recorders, with the last words of pilots and air traffic controllers. | Click for info (Amazon books) |
